Biostimulators

Biostimulators are injectable treatments designed to stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen. Rather than simply adding volume beneath the skin, they work gradually to improve facial fullness, firmness, and overall skin quality.
The most commonly used biostimulator in our practice is Sculptra®. Sculptra works gradually, with results developing over several months as your body produces new collagen.
Treatment is customized to your facial anatomy, the changes you are experiencing, and your goals. The goal is a gradual, natural-looking improvement rather than an immediate or dramatic change.
Biostimulators are injectable products that encourage the body to produce more of its own collagen. Collagen provides structure and support to the skin, but its production naturally decreases with age.
Sculptra® is a biostimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Once injected, it gradually stimulates collagen production in the treated areas. As new collagen develops, the skin and underlying tissues can become fuller, firmer, and more supported.
Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, which provide volume directly, Sculptra works more gradually by encouraging your body to create its own collagen.
Because the improvement develops over time, Sculptra is often a good choice for patients who want a subtle, progressive change rather than an immediately noticeable increase in volume.
Sculptra can be used to improve volume and support in several areas of the face.
Common treatment areas include:
Biostimulators are not intended to simply fill individual wrinkles. Treatment is generally planned across broader areas to improve overall facial structure and balance.
The appropriate treatment areas and amount of product depend on your anatomy, degree of volume loss, skin quality, and goals.
You may want to consider a biostimulator if:
Sculptra is often most effective when viewed as a long-term treatment rather than a quick fix. Results develop gradually, and usually require a series of treatments.
Biostimulators are not the best treatment for every concern. Hyaluronic acid fillers may be more appropriate when immediate volume or precise contouring is desired, while neuromodulators such as Botox are better suited for wrinkles caused by muscle movement. Significant skin laxity may ultimately require surgery.
We will first evaluate your facial anatomy, skin quality, volume loss, and areas of concern. Together, we will discuss whether a biostimulator is appropriate and what type of result you can realistically expect.
Sculptra is injected into carefully selected areas using a needle or cannula, depending on the treatment area and technique.
Treatment typically takes approximately 30–60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.
Because Sculptra stimulates collagen gradually, injections are performed as a series of treatments rather than a single session. The number and timing of treatments will depend on your anatomy and the degree of correction desired.
There is generally little to no required downtime after Sculptra treatment. Most patients can return to their normal activities shortly after treatment.
You may experience:
Patients should know that bruising is very common after Sculptra injections, particularly when large areas are treated. While it is okay to wear makeup after your procedure, bruising may be noticeable for a week or more in some cases.
You will notice some fullness immediately after treatment, but this is primarily related to the fluid placed with the initial injection and swelling rather than the final result.
As the temporary effects of the injection resolve, the treatment may initially appear less noticeable. Collagen production then gradually increases, with improvement developing over the following weeks and months.
We will provide specific aftercare instructions following your treatment.
