Procedure

A breast implant is used for most breast augmentation procedures. This implant may be filled with silicone gel or a salt-water solution known as saline. Typically, a small incision is made in the crease where the breast meets the chest. The implant is placed through this small incision and centered beneath the nipple. Stitches are used to close the incision. Recovery is relatively quick and most women find they are able to resume a regular work or home schedule in a few days.

Specialty Implants

Mentor, Allergan, and Sientra manufacture implants with a variety of unique properties addressing size, projection, shape, and texture. Advancements in Specialty Implants for Saline and Silicone have given surgeons an unprecedented arsenal of options. There have been five generations of silicone implants alone since their debut in 1962. The fifth generation represents significant advances in the cohesive nature of the gel and improved gel-to-shell interaction. Benefits include high strength, highly cohesive silicone gel, lower rates of capsular contracture and shell rupture, and improved outcomes when compared with earlier generations of implant devices. There are also a variety of ‘profile options’ designed to address a myriad of anatomical issues. Enhancements to Saline implants have generated new interest in saline as an option for a natural, low risk option for augmentation. Beautiful, natural results, combined with low rupture and capsule contracture risk and instant rupture detection without an MRI have contributed to the resurgence of the Saline implant. Bottom line – there has never been a better selection of implant options for your surgeon to chose from to give you the look you desire.
